Old Man

Such a proud man once, walking tall
The future ahead, the obstacles small
Energy for everything and more, yesterday
Dreams to be dreamt, achieved and hey
Who knew what might happen, how far one could rise
What worlds to conquer, what fantasies, what adventures
What joy, what love, what wisdom, what treasures
Lay waiting ahead for the taking?

Such a full life once, at it’s height
The sun setting, the approaching night
Yet wisdom gained from the years now passed
Such greater insight, knowledge and last
But not least, the calm ability to ponder on matters
Reliving the triumphs, the struggles, the hopes in tatters
What now, what hope, what turn, what prize
Lay waiting ahead for the taking?
